Edrice Simmons’ first job was as a social worker at an assisted living facility where she learned firsthand the importance of empathy and a patient-centric attitude toward healthcare. Those traits, along with her approach to leadership and a commitment to innovation, have been central elements of her career. “Edrice is a rare commercial leader who believes building a foundation of deep personal trust is key to improving both patient and business outcomes,” says Alexandra von Plato, chairwoman of Publicis Health, expressing a sentiment echoed by many of Simmons’ colleagues.
Prior to joining AbbVie, Simmons was at Lilly where she grew from a sales rep to the senior director of global marketing for the diabetes product portfolio. She was able to transform a “house of brands” into the company’s first global master brand in about six months. At AbbVie, she served as VP of immunology — gastroenterology, driving revenue growth by transforming product franchises. She also excelled in her role on the global commercial development team when she optimized AbbVie’s pipeline for future growth and led several successful launches in AbbVie’s aesthetics business. She currently leads over 500 professionals focused on developing new innovations in cancer care.
