The Lagrant Foundation’s most recent biennial scholarship alumni engagement survey found that 77% of its ethnic minority scholarship alumni report current employment within organizations serving the communications industry.

Administered to 676 alumni between April-July 2025 via SurveyMonkey.com, the online survey received a 74% participation rate with responses from 500 alumni, a 5% higher rate than the previous 2023 survey.

The survey found that alumni value the foundation’s networking opportunities, future-focused programming and personalized career support.

Many Lagrant Foundation alumni have transitioned to different or adjacent industries citing burnout from the high-paced, client-driven environment and a desire for flexibility.

Four key objectives of the survey are collecting updated contact information from past scholarship recipients, identifying the number of ethnic minorities currently in communications as a result of the scholarship, obtaining feedback from alumni and determining how to help alumni achieve their professional goals.

The survey measures the foundation’s success by surveying the career advancement of recipients, and the career assistance it provides for alumni pursuing careers in advertising, marketing or PR.

Additionally, this week, the foundation announced that MMC CEO Olga Fleming has joined its board of directors, effective immediately. Earlier this year, Fleming served on the host committee for the foundation’s 27th Anniversary Scholarship Program and led a career development workshop with MMC for traditional scholarship recipients, according to a Lagrant statement.

Kim Hunter founded The Lagrant Foundation in 1998. Since then, the foundation has provided almost $3 million and 841 scholarships.

Hunter, who is also CEO of Lagrant Communications, was named to PRWeek’s Power List this year.
