Lil Jon is back with a remix of his hit 2003 song “Get Low” — but this time, he’s using it to get people screened for colon cancer.
“Get Low #2,” is part of a larger campaign by Exact Sciences to encourage adults 45 and older to screen themselves for colon cancer — the second largest cancer-related killer.
Approximately 150,000 Americans are diagnosed with colon cancer every year, and at least 50,000 die from it annually.
The American Cancer Society recommends that all adults above the age of 45 get screened as chances for survival are around 90% if the disease is caught early.
However, estimates project that approximately 60 million Americans aren’t up to date with their screening. The numbers are even more pronounced for Black communities, where patients are 20% more likely to develop colon cancer and 40% more likely to experience mortality as a result.
This is a trend Lil Jon wants to change.
“Some health topics can be uncomfortable for people to talk about, which can lead to people – especially Black men — not taking their health seriously until it’s too late,” Lil Jon said in a statement.
Exact Sciences partnered with the Grammy Award-winning artist to share the word about the risk of colon cancer, and how their Cologuard test, a non-invasive tool, can be used at home to help with the screening process.
The kit allows for stool samples to be collected in the privacy of the user’s own bathroom with no prep needed.
Since the initial launch of the product 10 years ago, it has been used more than 17 million times and has detected 92% of colon cancers. It is not recommended for people with a personal or family history of colorectal cancer, and is not a replacement for colonoscopy in high-risk patients.
As for the song, “Get Low #2” features lyrics about the importance of checking for colon cancer, and steps the public can take to get screened.
The partnership also includes a music video where Lil Jon interacts with doctors and shows people how to use the Colonguard test.
Exact Sciences is committed to reducing the number of colon cancer related deaths across the country. They have also teamed up with Lil Jon’s hometown Atlanta Falcons to raise awareness in the greater metropolitan area about the issue.
Exact Science’s VP of screening marketing Jeremy Truxal said in a statement that Lil Jon brings a fresh perspective to the campaign, and helps drive attention, which is needed as millions of Americans are unscreened.
“We are committed to making screening easier with the Cologuard test — a non-invasive, effective and convenient option for those eligible,” he stated.
